The SWIS Kelpie Stud is owned by Rick Sims, Millicent. South Australia. It was founded in 1975 and officially register with the Working Kelpie Council of Australia in 1982 |

Mr. Sims was involved in the farming sector, owning a Stock Transport Company, as well as running sheep and cattle. To make life easier for himself he needed what he considered good dogs. He started with cross bred dogs but soon found he needed a better quality dog that could think for itself and so he decided to go with the Kelpie. In doing that he looked at a lof of studs and in the end settled on what suited his nature and how the dog could do what he ask of it, in the most efficient manner. The SWIS stud is based on Wyreema, Wyvelloe and Rockybar bloodlines. It places emphasis on temperament, natural working ability and good conformation. Mr. Sims likes calm dogs, but one that will move its stock from a distance. A dog that will think for itself. Mr. Sims has successfully taken part in many trials with his dogs as well as being open trial judge. He also has been involved in many sheep dog clinics in South Australia and Victoria. In May 2004 he travelled to Iserlohn, in Germany to set up and run sheep dog clinics (see Clinic 2004). He was at the inaugural committee meeting to set up Yard Dog Trials in South Australia and has been the convenor for the Millicent Yards Dog Trial for 22 years. One of the most incredible experiences in his life with Kelpies was the chance to judge the Australian Yard Dog Championship 2002. Sires in the SWIS stud have produced pups that have been sold to Scotland, Russia, South Africa, Scandinavia, Argentina, Switzerland and Canada. SWIS Kelpies can also be seen working in Germany, New Zealand and all states of Australia The SWIS Kelpie stud has produced dogs that can handle general farm/station work ( loading trucks, yards, mustering forest plantations to trialling) and are currently working on sheep, cattle ( beef / dairy ) and goats. |
